For 30 years, customers have been willing to wait in long lines just to buy their favorite treats and tortillas made entirely from scratch.
Now, customers know La Purisima has another treat in store; a second location east of 24th St. and Indian School Rd.
Juan Arellano and Maricela Arellano are the owners of the successful Mexican bakery and are excited for the opportunity to share their passion for authentic Mexican treats to Phoenix.
Adriana Rodriguez is the first employee to start working at the new location.
Rodriguez knows the importance of keeping the company’s core principles and strives to ensure that every person who walks through their doors will return for more of the famous bread.
“Everything that the main location has, we offer it here too,” Rodriguez said. For the past six months, the pastries have been produced at the original Panaderia and transferred to the new location. “Right now we are bringing bread from our first location twice a day.”
Although this is an extra step for employees, the business is seeing positive results. This has allowed them to bring on more staff, such as Claudia Perez and Irma Arellano to help continue the legacy. This is an exciting time for the Arellano family as well as all who are contributing to the growth of the bakery.
What makes La Purisima bakery unique is how each sugar treat is fulfilling. Customers who order Conchas “sweet bread” will bite into a fluffy bread with sugar on top . Customers can choose from variety of colorful versions of this rounded pastry. Although there is a variety of Conchas, they all have the same vanilla flavor, with the exception of the chocolate-coated.
“Every item that we sell is made from scratch,” Rodriguez said.
The Marranito “piggy” cookie is also a big hit for customers who experience La Purisima. These pig-shaped delights are very similar to a gingerbread cookie because of the molasses syrup included in the recipe. The Marranitos can satisfy any customer’s sweet tooth without leaving them feeling full of sugar.
One gem that is hidden in La Purisima are the Empanadas. The half-moon shaped treats are unique because of the sweetness in each bite. These are filled with different fillings such as pumpkin, pineapple, cream cheese, guava and many more. Empanadas are a great alternative for those who are craving a slice of pie, but don’t want to purchase an entire pie.
“Instead of eating pumpkin pie, you can have a pumpkin Empanada year round,” Rodriguez said.
The popular bakery also sells tortillas, tamales and burritos which have hooked customers into coming back for more. The traditional Mexican food, tasting tortillas made in front of the customers, and experiencing the Mexican culture once customers walk through the doors are what drives the business to success.
Thanks to popular demand, bread lovers can now get La Purisima treats as they are on the move around the valley.
