By: Cindy G Castillo
“Pinch me! I feel like I am still dreaming,” Mary Rábago laughs as she looks at a year back.
Mary Rábago has fulfilled one of her dreams and conquered a new challenge in becoming an entrepreneur.
She created the multimedia agency “Mary Rábago Productions,” which offers clients creative and innovate solutions and also produces her radio and TV show, both under the same name “Con Mary Rábago. She covers topics key to the community such as education, politics, health, finances and more.
“It’s been a blessing,” she said. “It has been fascinating to see how the community has embraced the show.”
“Journalism with a Purpose” has been Mary Rábago’s everyday motto and her ultimate commitment to her audience to provide them information with the highest professionalism in mind.
“Periodismo con propósito” is knowing that what I’m doing every day makes a difference in the community…and a positive impact in my career and in so many families,” she said.
On Sunday, October 5th “Con Mary Rábago” had an enormous celebration to mark its first year anniversary along with the community that’s been her motivation to keep working hard.
More than 1,500 people were present along with over 30 vendors and service providers, music, mariachi, folkloric dance and the traditional cake.
“That’s been my biggest surprise, the public has remained faithful and followed me on my quest,” she explained. “[Goes to show,] people are going to follow you because they want to follow you and not the brand you represent.
La Buena Onda 1190AM has been Rábago’s greatest support along the way, a platform that supported and believed in her project from the beginning.
“I’ve had support from people I’ve never expected. Instead of knocking on doors, people have come and offered their support. That’s why I say that I’m so blessed!”
“Mary is a professional journalist who has inspired the Latino community and now is breaking barriers, giving a new vision and purpose to Latino journalism,” said Elvira Espinoza, General Manager of MixedVoces in a press release.
“Con Mary Rábago” is here to stay and the sky is the limit for the plan that Rábago envisions for herself and her projects. She is proud of the team that’s backed her up in this year – working mothers who’ve never worked in the media industry before.
“The team is amazing, without their support I would be nothing,” she said. “They do it all. They’ve never worked in this environment and look at them now. To me, everybody has potential, you just have to believe in them.”
One year later, Mary Rábago has been able to fulfill her goals and grow professionally. And among the challenges, she has learned to believe in the power of perseverance.
“I don’t see myself doing anything else but what I’m doing right now and just keep growing.”
Don’t miss “Con Mary Rábago” on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at 1190AM La Buena Onda.
