Brian McAchran Urges People to Ask the Hard Questions in Upcoming Buckeye Mayor Race
By: Cindy G. Castillo
Brian McAchran is backing his campaign for Buckeye City Mayor with a personal invitation to voters – to get to know him and to ask him the hard questions on what his plans are to make the city great.
“Please be part of the communication because if you don’t, someone else will take your voice from you,” McAchran said.
McAchran is currently serving his second term representing District One on the Buckeye Town Council. He was elected to the position in 2008 and re-elected in 2012. Now in his run for mayor, he said more than anything, he wants to hear from the community.
“Understand the issues. Call me, call the other candidates, and get to know who we are,” he said, “get to know who represents you at city hall and what their vision for the future is, hold us all accountable.”
McAchran prides himself in living a life of service. He’s served his country as a United States Marine, after which he served for more than ten years as a Certified Law Enforcement Officer in Farmington, New Mexico. Brian has lived in different cities across the country, but his heart has stayed in Buckeye. He returned to the city in 2004 as a member of the Buckeye Police Department; and in 2005, lived through an incident that would change his life forever.
Brian’s patrol vehicle was struck by an impaired semi-trailer truck driver and dragged more than a hundred yards. Brian suffered a traumatic brain injury and was awarded the Purple Heart by the Buckeye Police Department. The effects of his injuries forced his medical retirement in 2007.“I loved being a police officer,” he said, “it was very difficult for me. I had no desire to leave [the police department], that’s what I pictured doing for the remainder of my adult life.”
It is his experience in being a police officer that drives him to focus on public safety if he were to hold the position of Buckeye City Mayor. “We need to start having a conversation in a civil level about our law enforcement,” he explains, “making sure that we are receptive to our community and that we have this communication to help build the trust that is there but needs to be seen.”
He said that more than anything, he hopes that open dialogue can surface and improve between the community and law enforcement.
McAchran distinguishes himself for being transparent in the issues he’d like to tackle as the potential next Mayor of Buckeye. He believes it’s time for a change and time for “the citizens of Buckeye to be treated as the owners and customers of the city.” He says it’s time to embrace new technologies and ideas and to welcome new city management and city employees who are held accountable.
