“I got it! I got it!”

Angelica Alas woke from a special dream one night. Before she could forget, she took her husband’s advice and wrote it down.

It was something special, a vision.

She had just returned from a Christian retreat that changed her view in life. Then she started to draw. A t-shirt? no. 7 a.m. hit and she had completed what was the first drawing of what is now Alas Designs.

Backed by her husband’s business expertise, and her own ten years in marketing, Alas went out of her way to make her vision a reality.

Alas Designs are comfort high heel wraps with padded insoles. The product is changing the way women feel about heels by giving women’s shoes a stylish new look with the added benefit of comfort and support.

Three weeks ago, Alas received inventory for her design and made her way over to the Ultimate Women’s Expo in Downtown Phoenix.

“It went really good. I received a lot of positive response, people saying that it was a great idea and why hadn’t anyone thought of this before,” she said.

She admits her project is in its first steps, so it’s hard to tell what will happen in the future.

However, Alas envisions her project being adopted by a large retailer, such as Dillard’s or Macy’s. She hopes to develop her business into different styles, lengths and patterns to fit any style.

And with all starting projects, there comes challenges.

“Right now, our challenge is our budget for marketing … the production part of it is also a big challenge, getting somebody to take it and visualize what I have in mind,” she said.

To other women – moms in particular – who are looking to grow professionally and start their own business, her advice is to keep their eyes on their vision and to not get discouraged.

“Keep pushing forward … don’t let other people put the bad thoughts in your mind. It’s always about taking that first step.”

Alas believes that Alas Designs will be able to help women maintain a sense of fashion and ultimately revolutionize the way they look at wearing heels.

She’s received the support from family and is now on her way to bigger and better projects ahead.
