Crowds gather; seats start to fill up, and it’s getting closer to show time.

Adriana Krause ties the laces of her right ice skate as a good-luck ritual. The 21-year-old from Rio de Janeiro warms up with the rest of the crew, and then makes her way for hair and make-up.

It is 20 minutes before the show. She’s nervous but grateful to be where she is.

“It’s pretty amazing. I still can’t believe it, and I still get really excited,” Krause said.

Two and a half years ago, at the age of 18, she auditioned for the Disney on Ice show in her home town in Brazil. She had prepared and practiced, and at 19, she received an e-mail.

She had been chosen, and her life has never been the same since.

“I was like, ‘That’s what I worked for, and now I have the opportunity, so I’m going,” she said.

She was now a part of the same performances she had been watching since 14,. Three days after receiving the news, Krause was on the road.unnamed (1)

“I had no doubts, and (my parents) didn’t have any doubts either. They knew that’s what I wanted, so they were pretty happy with it,” she said.

Krause now performs in Disney on Ice Celebrates 100 years of Magic as a fumble skater, performing in the larger group choreographies in the show. She joined in the South America tour in Argentina.

What was a scary experience at the beginning is now a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“When you do what you love, when you have the opportunity to travel the world doing what you love — in this case, ice skating — you just get used to it and it’s pretty amazing,” she said.

At her young age, Krause has traveled to Argentina, Chile, Canada and different cities across the United States.

“It’s incredible that you get to know people from every place in the world, and, of course, see a lot of places! It’s an amazing life experience,” Krause said.

As she enjoys every step of the way, Krause is proud to call ice skating her career. This summer, her journey will lead her to South Africa.

“It’s a once in-a-lifetime experience.  You need to enjoy, have fun and appreciate what you’re doing.”
