Why Fifth Harmony Kept Their Name After Camila Cabello

by Daniela Galvez

Soon after news broke that Camila Cabello had left Fifth Harmony, there was speculation whether the girl group would change their name.

In a recent interview with MTV News, Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei and Dinah Jane reflected on their decision to keep their name intact. “It was obviously a thought because it was a prevalent thing that there’s four of us, not five. Regardless, we were all very united in the fact that we didn’t want to change the name,” Jauregui revealed.

Although Fourth Harmony might have been more fitting for the remaining ladies, the singers decided to keep their original group name, despite losing one of their members. “We felt like within ourselves, no, Fifth Harmony is the name we grew up with and we worked for and it’s our brand,” the brunette beauty added. “It’s who we are. It’s our entire moments. It’s what we spent five years on.”

The female pop group, who finished in third place on the second season of X Factor, initially went by the name LYLAS, then 1432, before the show’s fans voted to change their name to Fifth Harmony. “The fans named us Fifth Harmony,” Jane recalled. “And now they’re the fifth member.”
