Del Rio’s trademark melancholic wailing style made her one of the most famous ranchera singers of all time. Yolanda del Río was born in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico in 1955. Del Río began singing as a child, performing at festivals and on the radio. She made her TV debut before she became a teenager, and debuted for RCA Victor around age 15. Within a year, her “La Hija de Nadie” single sold over a million copies and made her a star. She quickly moved her touring base beyond Mexico to the United States. The hits kept coming, including “Se Me Olvidó Otra Vez,” “Tus Maletas en la Puerta,” “Llorar, Llorar, Llorar,” and “Camas Separadas,” and Del Río eventually sold almost 20 million records. Her songs “Valgame Dios” and “Una Intrusa” ranked on the Billboard Latin charts, and Del Rio grabbed a Grammy nomination in 1984. She also made her mark in the film world, including her best-known films “Caminos de Michoacán” (1979) and “La India Blanca” (1982). Latin music fans will want to take advantage of this rare opportunity to see this ranchera singing legend live.
