Shakira brings Latino flavor to "The Voice"
Colombian superstar Shakira is the ideal coach for Latino contenders on the hit reality television show The Voice. After replacing Christina Aguilera, the Latina star plays a motherly role model with a Latin kick, supporting young hopefuls’ music careers. Shakira reportedly is receiving $12 million for the role of a coach and is hoping to bring more of a Latino audience to the show. The only female judge has built up the Latino audience featuring Latinas such as Monique Abbadie, who boldly sang Shakira’s popular meringue tune Loca.
The 20-year old Abbadie wowed the judges and had all four of them including Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Usher and Shakira fighting for the talented contender. Abbadie instinctively went with her idol, Shakira.
“So many things go through your mind while you are performing,” Abbadie said of her blind audition. “[But] never did I doubt Shakira with what she was telling me. The look in her eye was so genuine, so full of passion.”
Fans are looking forward to see what work Shakira does as a vocal coach with the young talent. The winner of the show will receive a grand prize of a recording contract.
