Rubén Aguirre, Known as Chavo del 8’s ‘Profesor Jirafales’ Dies at Age 82

Rubén Aguirre, known and loved by audiences worldwide for his role as “Profesor Jirafales” in “El Chavo del 8” has died at the age of 82.

The news was confirmed early morning on Friday. He reportedly died from complications with pneumonia.

Former co-star and dear friend Edgar Vivar took to Twitter to also confirm the news on Twitter sharing what was their last photo of them together. “My favorite professor rests in peace now,” he wrote. “Today my good friend Rubén Aguirre left this earth. I will miss you very much.”

News of his health began circulating when in early June, Aguirre’s wife Consuelo de los Reyes mentioned on a TV show that her husband was in serious condition. She mentioned diabetes, and that her husband had “lost all his strength” and was “not moving.”

His daughter Verónica Aguirre spoke to CNN en Español early Friday morning to confirm the death of her father, caused from complications with pneumonia. He died at his home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
