By: Cindy G. Castillo
Chiquis, Jacqui, Mikey, Jenicka and Johnny are ready to take over your NBC Universo Sunday nights with the upcoming reality series, “The Riveras.” The five siblings will follow the legacy of their mother, Regional Mexican superstar Jenni Rivera, staring Sunday, October 16th – four years after the death of Jenni in a tragic airplane accident.
Audiences across the country first fell in love with Chiquis Rivera and her siblings on her mother’s own series, “I Love Jenni.” Now, they’re all coming together again in what they promise will be a project that will deliver laughs, drama and raw emotion.
“We’re doing this reality show for the public, we’re doing it for them, because they’ve asked for it a lot,” Chiquis explains, “also as a way to clear the air on a lot of things that have happened [since her mother’s death]; there’s a lot of things that have been said since, and we want to clear those up.”
“The Riveras” will touch on the lives of the siblings growing up, along with many tough moments, including them having to sell their mother’s home, Chiquis’ singing career and many more. Mikey, now 23, will also share his personal experience in finding out his three year old daughter might be autistic.
In this series, the siblings will allow viewers to go inside their lives, sharing their experiences openly and honestly. “We want to show the world that we’re ready, that we’re strong and that we’re still learning about ourselves,” Jacqui, the second oldest sister, said, “we just want to put ourselves out there so fans know where Jenni’s kids are, and how we’re turning out.”
Losing their mother on December 9, 2012 was without a doubt rough; but they all agree that having each other and keeping their close-knit relationship intact has helped them in the healing process.
“We want to show the world that you can continue moving forward despite adversities. Yes, life without our mother has been painful and difficult. We have weak moments, but at the end of the day we come together as family to figure it out,” Chiquis said. “Our goal is to represent our mother as the great woman she was and viewers will get to see that through all of us.”
“The Riveras” premieres Sunday, October 16th at 10 p.m./9 p.m. Central on NBC Universo.
