Dillon Garcia: Hot MultiCulti Comic
Dillon Garcia, 21, may be the youngest, most multi-cultural comic that’s ever going to make you laugh your ass off. He was the youngest comedian to appear on Comedy Central when he was featured on the show of his comedy idol Gabriel Iglesias in 2011.
And for sure he’s the youngest member of the stellar line-up of comedians coming to the Valley as part of the Latin Comedy Jam 2013 on March 30 at Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino. The Latin Comedy Jam offers a hilarious bend of situational and topical comedy from five of the nation’s top Latino comics to the large crowds that typically turn out for this night of a million laughs.
ArizonaLatinos recently interviewed the up-and-coming comic star Dillon Garcia in California between sets of his comedy act. He’s been performing since he was 16 because, as he puts it in his rapid-fire way of talking, “I’m having fun and getting paid for it. And then there’s the groupies….”
Dillon relates that he includes material about most cultures in his act and can get away with it because he grew up in Mexican, White, Navajo and Black households.
“MultiCulti is where it’s at,” he says. “I learned about life from each one; I skimmed the cream of the crop from each culture. I use what I learned to create outlandish characters on stage. There’s the typical Latino father that needs his beer to chill out after a hard day at work, for instance.”
This Millennial comic also channels his Inner Black Dude. One of his skits features his in-your-face Black Dillon pushing aside his wishy-washy White alter ego to tell it like it is. The punch lines evoke ripples of laughter from the audience.
Garcia says he still can’t believe he’s a professional comedian. “I never wanted to do comedy; it kind of just fell into my lap. My mom owned a deli. I met comedian Richard Villa there, and he was the first person to evey put me onstage, and on TV. Doing comedy is the greatest feeling in the world. I love it and will never do anything else.”
Dillon’s material is supported by his good and bad life lessons with satirical and sometimes sarcastic twists. But it’s all in fun because most of his funny stuff is based on throwing himself in the spotlight and poking fun at himself. Because he’s still young, he continues to shape his comedic style and polish his gift of improvisation and quick quips.
Dillon’s stand-up routines have allowed him to open for such renowned comic stars as Iglesias, Dave Chappelle, and Nick Swanson. He has starred on Iglesias’ Stand Up Revolution series on Comedy Central for two years. This excellent comic has performed throughout the country and on American Latino Television, Google TV, and MTV.
No doubt about it, save the March 30 date to catch Dillon’s act. His props are his microphone and his wits. And be ready to hold your shaking belly and laugh-aching sides when he dishes out the non-stop jokes.
Get your tickets in advance for this laughs-filled show, because they’re going faster than tortillas hot off the griddle. For more information about the Latin Comedy Jam 2013 tour, visit www.thelatincomedyjam.com .
