It’s no secret that a perfect, flawless makeup look starts with the right tools. Investing on good, quality brushes will noticeably improve your makeup technique.

But just as important as investing in these brushes is the fact that we want to take good care of them to make them last as long as possible. Cleaning your brushes every so often will keep them in tip-top shape and most importantly, bacteria-free.

So I went on the hunt for the best, and most affordable cleaning tools for your make-up brushes and here’s what I found:

Makeup Mat – Walmart ($2.89)

This makeup mat is my favorite new makeup tool – it officially has a permanent place in my vanity. I came across this gem at my local Walmart in the beauty section. After reading its description, I decided to give it a try.

I don’t use many makeup brushes to apply my makeup, so this works great because it makes it easy to switch between multiple eyeshadows, blushes and powders using a single brush. All you do is wipe your makeup brush across the mat back and forth a few times and the brush is clean and ready to use. It won’t mix the colors together at all. It also helps that the powders will not go all over my vanity, but will stay contained on the mat.

This gem comes in either gray and black or pink and black. It has a non-skid backing so it stays in place, and is totally machine washable. And at $2.98, it’s a complete steal!

This mat has worked so well I now have a couple in my professional makeup kit.
