New Designers: Now Showing at New York Fashion Week
By: Rosangelica Cardenas, Blush Boutique
For fashionistas, runway shows have become more like fashion classes, and we’ve become the eager students that can’t wait to see what our teachers have in store for us. That’s especially true for New York Fashion Week, where hundreds of designers take part every year in this amazing week to showcase their collections and share them with the world.
And while we all wait in angst to see what the fashion giants will bring to the table this year, it’s also great to see the return of some who are still considered “fresh” in the fashion industry, but definitely growing in notoriety.
Here are some of the designers from New York Fashion Week that really left an impression:
Misha Collection
Designed by Michelle Aznavorian, Misha Collection is still considered to be a newer brand by big fashion icon standards. However, Michelle has definitely proven herself at this year’s New York Fashion Week. Her show was a brilliant cohesion in design and color palette; it all made sense and I wanted each and every piece that I saw on the runway. You can find her designs in retail powerhouses such as Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom.
“I have always been a lover of all things fashion. High fashion to wardrobe staples; I’ve lived and breathed the clothing industry my entire life” –Michelle Aznovorian
Lois London
Designed by Radhika Perera-Hernandez, Lois London is definitely a contemporary line. Radhika has definitely used the knowledge she gained working at the head offices of Beyonce’s House of Dereon, allowing her to have her very own collection now featured at New York Fashion Week. She brings elegance, sophistication and subtle sexiness with her silk fabrics, embellished details and draped silhouettes. Lois London was featured in Harper Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire and other well-known publications.
“I absolutely love and adore when women of color are put on the cover of magazines and have their faces on different brands”. –Radhika Perera-Hernandez
Kanye West
Not only is Kanye West one of the most talked about artists of today, but he’s also noted for showing off his passion for fashion to the world. Kanye is adding a twist to New York Fashion Week by presenting his Yeezy Season 4 (YS4) outdoors at Madison Square Garden. The YS4 Collection is based around neutral, flesh-tone street wear. Call it what you will, but people are wearing it, and it’s now sold and imitated by many. One thing is true: Kanye does an exceptional job at making sure that women of all colors, shapes and sizes are represented in his collections.
“So if the devil wears Prada. Adam, Eve wear nada; I’m in between, but way more fresher”. –Kanye West
