The ability to mesh parenting and fashion is a phenomenal feat – and that’s exactly what independent designers Joey and Amber Rodriguez did with their new children’s clothing brand, “Jumping JAAC,” entirely inspired by their own four kids.
Joey is better known as “Joey Boy” from 101.5FM’s show, “The Morning Mess.” He and his wife Amber decided to jump into the entrepreneurial world in March of this year and officially launch “Jumping JAAC.” They came up with the name by combining the first letters of their kids: Jo-Jo, Alina, Adrien and Cruz.
With the name of the brand down, it was time to start designing. Joey quickly discovered that the creative process would hit him anywhere and everywhere. He says he is constantly thinking of new designs. “It hits me in the shower, while I’m driving – the ideas just come to me,” he said.
Also during the creative process, they remained conscious on how to promote the brand and the price range they wanted to stay in. They decided to keep their items in the $20-dollar range, a price that would make it accessible for everyone.
In working with Amber, Joey recognizes that working together is a team effort and that his wife is also his business partner. They both bounce ideas off of each other, and sometimes they agree to disagree. This is where he says trust plays a part in their business relationship. They both understand that some of their designs will be a gamble; but nonetheless, it’s a learning experience.
Joey says the designs for “Jumping JAAC” are inspired by what is most popular in pop culture. For example, he says a shirt with the quote “all the way up” has become a favorite, along with a cupcake shirt with the saying, “it’s lit,” and last but not least a contemporary shirt with the hashtag “#mood.”
The versatility in some of their shirts is what makes their collection a huge success. “Jumping JAAC” is heading in the right direction with big names such as Baby Bash and Kid Ink already dressing their kids with their designs. There is no doubt that “Jumping JAAC” will become a household name quickly. Joey says the goal is to create a solid brand and expand into teen clothing.
