How to Maintain Radiant, Healthy Skin During the Hot Summer Months

The hot summer months are upon us, and those triple digits can only mean trouble for our skin. So it should go without saying that skin care is crucial. That’s where our friends at Live Skin come in to help. Dr. Gibrham Rodriguez has shared with us the top three things to keep in mind to get — and maintain — your healthiest skin to date.

Drink Plenty of Water

Approximately 60% of our bodies is water and the skin is the largest organ of the human body. Keeping hydrated will help your skin get rid of toxins and improve its complexion. Try to drink eight 8-ounces glasses of pure water daily and avoid caffeinated drinks as much as possible.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation helps remove debris and dead skin cells. This will prevent pore congestion. It is best to do it at night before going to bed or in the mornings before applying makeup, moisturizer or any other skin care product.  You can exfoliate 1-2 times per week. If you have sensitive skin once per week should be sufficient. There are many ways to exfoliate and there are just as many products available.  I recommend “Gentle exfoliant” by PCA as it is good for all skin types.  You must open your pores so you can better exfoliate and also decrease irritation. First, fill a sink with steaming hot water. Lean over the water and then cover your head and the area around the sink with a large towel so that the steam is trapped. Do that for about 10-15 minutes. Second, wash your face with warm water and apply exfoliating agent. Scrub your face gently in upward circular motions for 3-5 minutes. Focus on the dry patches or areas where the skin looks rough. Then, Rinse your skin. Third, apply a moisturizer such as “Rebalance” by PCA.

Apply Sunscreen 

Not only do you need to apply sunscreen daily, you also need to apply enough. It takes a very short period of time for UV light exposure to cause damage.
