We’ve all been part of the dreaded morning dilemma: I have nothing to wear! Even though, there are plenty of outfits in plain sight.
Vouchercloud.com polled 2,137 American women on their clothing and shopping habits, and on average, those ladies estimated that they own $550 worth of never-worn clothes and shoes–and that those items take up 20 percent of their closets.
So we have come up with a list to help you next time you’re about to make a purchase, and decided if the item is a “want” or a “need”.
Did you try the item on? Trying on whatever it is you’re about to purchase is a must! Clothing on hangers and especially on mannequins are deceiving. What looks good as you see it and on you isn’t the same thing.
Are you considering this piece just because of its label? Avoid making a purchase just because “it’s designer”. If you’re not a fan of the piece, then who designed it is meaningless.
Are you in a horrible mood right now? The same way you shouldn’t eat when you’re not hungry, you shouldn’t go buy clothes when you’re sad or going through a bad time. Emotional shopping or the so-called shopping “therapy” is dangerous, and could lead to purchases you will later regret.
Will it work with the clothes you already have in your closet? “Try to envision how it would look with the rest of your wardrobe,” says Palad. If you’d have to buy several new pieces to be able to wear this one in an outfit, it’s probably not the smartest purchase.
Is it comfortable? Even if it’s the most prettiest of blouses or shoes, if it’s too tight and you can’t go an entire day with it on, then you’re probably not going to wear the item often.
Is it the right size? Don’t buy anything that you’re “planning” on fitting on later. Buy the things that are the right fit for you today.
