We all fall into wardrobe ruts. The endless parade of hot trends and luxe fashions in magazines and on TV can make our own closets seem lackluster by comparison. Once you find an outfit that matches, is flattering and works for a given occasion, it often becomes your uniform. This is great when you’re running late and need to look pulled together in a flash — but not so great when you want a fresh, new look.
Keep in mind that how you put things together and accessorize marks the difference between looking good and looking fabulous. Here are a few easy ways to rev up last year’s looks.
Reorganize
Something as simple as pulling out all your clothes, refolding them and putting them away in a different place can help you re-imagine your wardrobe.
Mix & Match
Spend an afternoon with old clothes by trying them on and putting things together in new ways. Try to come up with unexpected color combos, mixing prints and layering.
Accessorize
There are tons of easy and inexpensive ways to change up your look with a few new accessories. Add a colorful belt to a little black dress, try patterned tights under a simple pencil skirt, or throw on a vivid scarf. This season’s must-have accessory is a detachable collar or collar necklace — they instantly revitalize every plain neckline in your closet.
