Trini Fragozo VOLR Salon infuses hair pizazz
The glamour showcased on stage at Latino Fashion Live 2013 production on April 20 was only a fraction of what went into the show. What the audience didn’t see was the stylist from VOLR Salon making drastic changes to the models’ hair that complemented and completed their runway design looks. Hours of planning and preparation which led up to show-time revealed the artistry of master hair stylist Trini Fragozo, owner of VOLR Salon in Phoenix.
Mr. Fragozo has been in the salon business for 15 years, graduating from the Carsten Institute of Cosmetology in Tempe in 1988. By 1999, he opened his first salon in Phoenix, a goal he had set and has successfully achieved. Opening the salon was only the beginning to the accomplishments and experiences Trini and his team would rack up. Trini states,” I think I am very successful for (maintaining) my salon through the recession.”
But with such a competitive line of work, one may wonder how? Well, Trini goes on to tell us that it is through, “Consistency, education, and involvement in the industry. Clients should expect higher education in color, cutting and professional services. We know our stuff very well.”
It is with that knowledge that the VOLR Salon team is able to overcome many challenges that occur in a salon. “Daily there are obstacles, we always overcome them. We have a very good team, we work together to come to solutions,” Trini says.
We couldn’t help but wonder what some of these obstacles were. Trini mentions that some challenges are the dramatic changes that come from coloring, such as going from a very dark color to blonde, as well as changing from dark to red hair. Although there were no color changes of the hair of the models of Latino Fashion Live, we did see some edgy looks through sleek, modern updo’s. The hair of these Latina models looked sophisticated and fashionable on the runway. But what trends does Trini see off the runway for Latinas’ luscious locks?
“Latinos like volume and rich colors. They have a very specific kind of hair which requires specific haircuts. They like a lot of curls, lots of volume, natural colors, waves and bangs. Latinas love body and texture,” Trini says.
He adds that the VOLR Salon team is dedicated to the continuing education of its stylists. According to one of their excellent blogs on their website (www.volrsalon.com ), “Because we believe in innovation and staying on the cutting edge of fashion, we are proud to say that as of July every one of our stylists has attended the Bumble & bumble University in New York City for advanced training. This was no easy feat to accomplish and we are one of the few salons in this state to have done so. BbU has been referred in the industry as the Harvard of hair education and we look forward to continuing our association with this cutting edge brand.”
