How to Get Salma Hayek's Oscar Look
Not all of us may have the time or money the stars have to look so red-carpet ready, but there are ways of getting their good looks for almost nothing. Take Latina beauty Salma Hayek for example; she is certainly a stunning girl, but with this tutorial you can get the fantastic celeb look for realistic prices.
The actress is known for her dark black locks, but she chose to wear her hair up for the evening, which really showcases her great bone structure and frames her face. You can have a bun just like hers by following these eight easy steps. It is called a sock bun; yes sock. The sock serves to create volume, to keep hair in place and add depth to the bun. It is one of the easiest looks to get and you do not even have to go and buy any fancy products!
Directions for Sock Bun
- Find a sock close to your hair color.
- Cut the toes out of the sock so that it makes a tube.
- Roll the sock up so it looks like a doughnut.
- Pull your hair up into a pony tail low or high.
- Pull your pony tail through the center of the sock doughnut until the sock is at the base.
- Split your pony tail so that it’s covering the sock in every direction.
- Use an elastic to secure the hair around the sock.
- Tuck/pin the loose hairs around the bun.
Salma added embellishments by accenting her bun with gold material in the front which can be done by pinning complementary accessories to your bun.
Salma’s makeup was with in good taste and not over the top but just enough to give a dramatic seductive edge to a classy elegant look. When wearing your hair up you want to wear make up that will really show off your best features on your face. For Salma it is her great bone structure. She wore undertones and blush just below her cheeks to really play up her defined cheek bones To get this look follow these steps:
Directions for Blush Application
- Find a blush that is not to dark, typically no more than two shades darker than foundation and contains pink or bronze.
- Pucker your lips to slenderize your face and see where exactly you cheek bones show the most.
- With mouth still puckered apply blush in the middle of cheek bones slightly under where the bone protrudes.
- If needed add more blush as it will really shape your face and highlight a beautiful bone structure, especially with an up-do hair style.
Another great feature that can really be shown off when wearing your hair up is your eyes. For Salma her mesmerizing dark eyes really popped with out her hair detracting from them. Sometimes less is more. The actress chose to wear more neutral browns, which is recommended if you have dark eyes or features and especially if you are wearing gold.
Directions for Eye Makeup
- Start by applying a primer to ensure make up will last all night.
- Use lighter browns or tan next to the base of the top of the lid, threw the corners of the inside of the eye.
- Use a darker brown on the crease of the eye, more so on the outer edges.
- Blend and be sure to clean up the area so that both eyes have equal amounts of makeup.
- Use black eyeliner to shape along the bottom of the eye.
- Use the same eyeliner to outline the outer edge of the eye.
Salma used a thicker liner to really make her eyes pop and look dramatic without excessive shadow. Not every girl will get a chance to walk down the red carpet, but at least they can have the look!
