The summer brings the season of tanning! Here are a few tips for you if you’re a little nervous about self-tanning and want to avoid that dreaded orange look.
Don’t Forget to Prep!
Dry skin will soak up extra self-tanner, causing dark spots such as brown elbows. So before you self tan, remove dead skins by showering and exfoliating with a textured sponge or nongreasy scrub.
DO NOT Load on Moisturizer First
You should never moisturize your whole body before you self-tan as this will only make the tan lighter and dilute it. Moisturize problem areas, which are elbows, knees, hands, feet, and any severe dry-skin areas. The areas that develop much darker than the rest of your body.
DO Save Your Hands for Last
Moisturize your hands, front and back, then blend down the hands making sure you cover all areas including the sides, down and in between every finger, and always remember the back of the wrist. When you’re done with one hand, use a wet wipe to clean off your nails, cuticles, and palms. Once you’re done with both hands, do NOT wash them for a few hours until they’re all set.
DO NOT Reapply to your Entire Body
The two areas that will fade the fastest are your face and your hands as you’re washing these often. Most people don’t need to self-tan more frequently than every one to two weeks, so here’s a trick to maximize your tan between applications: Apply self-tanner only to your face every three days or so for an extra punch of color that’ll pick up and blend with the tan that’s left on your body.
