Beauty Secrets From Around the World
Beauty comes in every size, shape and color. There is no cookie-cutter image when it comes to what makes people pretty. It is often the things that make us unique that makes us beautiful. Check out these beauty tips from around the world to find out the secrets of international beauties.
Singapore
For glowing skin, women mash either avocado or papaya, slather it on their face, let it sit for 15 minutes and then rinse with water. Avocado is loaded with skin-friendly oils, and papaya has papain, an exfoliating enzyme.
France
Women in France do their own manicures, often with red polish. They begin by first soaking their fingers in warm water with lemon juice. It erases the yellow tinge that red polish can leave behind.
Italy
The sun in southern Italy is very strong, and drying for hair. To prevent damage and boost shine, Italian women make their own egg-white mask: Whip two eggs into a frothy mousse and apply it to wet hair for 10 minutes, then shampoo and rinse with lukewarm water.
Costa Rica
To temporarily shrink pores, combine equal parts orange juice and water and swab the mixture across your face (avoiding the eye area) with a cotton ball. Leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse.
Greece
For shiny, bouncy locks, women in Greece rinse their hair with rosemary water; it deep-cleans and removes buildup. Boil fresh rosemary in water, let it cool completely, strain out the rosemary, and pour the water over your hair.
Brazil
To ease the sting of sunburn, pile oatmeal flakes onto a large piece of gauze bandage, twist it up like a sack, and tie it around the tap of your bathtub. Let cool water flow through the bag, then bathe in this water for 20 minutes to soak up the grains’ anti-inflammatory goodness.
Israel
Mud from Israel’s Dead Sea has long been used as a cleansing mask for the face and body. Women cover their bodies with the black mud, then float in the salty water, or they scoop the mud into a jar and use it at home. You can buy Ahava Dead Sea Mineral Mud ($28) in the U.S. at ahavaus.com.
Jamaica
Combine baking soda with water to make a paste and dab it onto a pimple. As it dries and hardens, it sucks dirt and oil out of your pores.
