Wildcats Will Host Sun Devils at McKale Center on Wednesday
By Francisco Romero
The Duel in the Desert Part II will continue at McKale Center Wednesday night when the University of Arizona Wildcats host the Sun Devils of Arizona State University.
It will be the second meeting between the two schools, Arizona beat ASU in Tempe 94-82 on January 3rd; it was the conference (Pac 12) opener for both schools.
The Wildcats enter Wednesday’s game ranked No. 12 in the country. Arizona had a great weekend at home sweeping UCLA and USC to improve its record to 21-5; 9-4 in conference play.
Arizona is tied in first place in the Pac 12 with Oregon.
Arizona enters the week as one of only two programs in the nation to have four active players on its roster with at least 1,000 career points at the NCAA Division I level. Ryan Anderson (1,679 points), Mark Tollefsen (1,232 points), Kaleb Tarczewski (1,116 points) and Gabe York (1,016 points) make up the UA quartet of scorers.
ASU’s record stands at 14-12; 4-9 in conference play; the Sun Devils beat USC and lost against UCLA this past weekend.
For the Sun Devils it will be the first time, its head coach Bobby Hurley visits McKale Center as a coach. The last time Hurley visited Tucson was back in 1991 as a member of the Duke Blue Devils. Arizona beat the Blue Devils in overtime.
ASU will try to win its third game against a ranked opponent, earlier in the year the Sun Devils beat then No. 18 Texas A&M and recently No. 23 USC.
The Arizona Wildcats are coming off an 86-78 victory over the USC Trojans on Sunday evening that saw the home team lead the entire game. UA used a strong first half of 54.1 percent from the field to build a 16-point lead. Gabe York became the 50th Wildcat in program history to score 1,000 points in a career.
The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm and can be heard in Spanish online on the Arizona Wildcats All Access Audio and Video:
