“Mexico Has Every Chance (to win the Copa America Centenario)” According to Head Coach Osorio
By Francisco Romero. – In a game with vast opportunities for both teams to score at will, Mexico beat Jamaica 2-0 and advanced to the next round of Copa America Centenario Thursday night in front of 83,263 fans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and Oribe Peralta scored for Mexico; “Chicharito” headed in a goal at the 18th minute of play, while Peralta scored at the 81st minute.
Mexico’s goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa had a great game as he single-handedly was able to stop at least three clear shots from Jamaica’s offensive attack.
With the victory Mexico advances to the knockout round and will face Venezuela next Monday in Houston, TX.
“As we plan every game, with the outmost respect to each and everyone of our rivals and with our players playing up to their potential, Mexico has every chance (to win the Copa America Centenario),” said Mexico’s head coach Juan Carlos Osorio during a post game conference Thursday night.
“Every game has its needs, I think as we keep selecting the group and the players for the next game and develop the plan so the guys can execute it, Mexico has all the possibilities to compete against anyone,” added Osorio.
Jamaica and Uruguay have been eliminated from competition as both teams have lost two games; both teams will face each other in San Jose, California.
Mexico can finish first in its group if it wins or draws; Venezuela must beat Mexico to finish as the leader of Group C.
