Mexico Dominates Senegal for its First Victory of the Year
By Francisco Romero
A complicated game it was not; with poise and ease the Mexican National Team was able to beat Senegal 2-0 on Wednesday night at Marlins Park in Miami in-front-of 15,588 fans.
Even though the first half was controlled by “El Tri” the scored ended up tied at zero.
The second half watched Jesús Dueñas score the first goal for Mexico at the 72nd minute of play, while Rodolfo Pizarro scored at the 86th minute.
“In our opinion it was a great test for our squad,” said Mexico’s head coach Juan Carlos Osorio. “They did not have a super-star in their team, but their system of 4-1-4-1 was very well defined.
Mexico’s record under the guidance of Osorio is now 3-0.
Mexico took control of the game, but Senegal had various opportunities to score; in the second half Ibrahima Diop had a clear shot, but the shot sailed out of bounds.
For Mexico it is a good way to star the year; it was an opportunity for Osorio to evaluate several players and at the end he came out very satisfied.
“We are very satisfied with our midfielders, they performed great through the air and were able to distribute the ball in a very effective way. Yasser Corono and Nestor Araujo played well during the first half and Jesus Molina and Jose Arturo Rivas did the job during the second half.”
Mexico’s next game will be March 25th against Canada; it will be Mexico’s first qualifying game.
“Honestly I think that this game serves as a pacesetter for what is coming up for us, I just hope we limit our injuries,” said Osorio. “With this game will get us closer to pick our players in a just and clear way in our lineup.
