Mexico and Germany finish in a 2-2 Draw to begin Olympic Play

Mexico is looking to win Gold for the second consecutive time in Olympic competition.

The 2012 soccer Olympic winners begin its quest for the precious metal against Germany in a game that finished in a 2-2 tie in a Group C match; the game was played at Fonte Nove Arena.

Mexico was quick right out of the gate; Irving Lozano attacked at the 8th minute of play with a header that just missed going in.

Even thought the first half of the game finished with a 0-0 tie, Mexico created better opportunities to score.

Lozano had another shot to score at the 28th minute of the first half, but Germany’s goalie Timo Horn denied entry of the ball.

Oribe Peralta scored Mexico’s first goal a the 51st minute of play, the lead did not last long as Serge Gnabry tied the game at one at the 57th minute of play, Rodolfo Pizarro gave the lead back to Mexico at the 61st minute with a goal, but Germany came back and tied it on a Matthias Ginter goal at the 77th minute of play.

“There are things that we need to improve, our team played well, unfortunately we were not effective enough to win, but it was a match that could have been in our favor, now we just have to analyze the game in detail and I’m sure we’ll improve,” said Mexico’s head coach Raul Gutierrez.

Mexico’s next game will be on Sunday, it will take on Fiji at 12 noon, while Germany will face South Korea at 4:00 p.m.

Mexico is a huge favor against Fiji; the games will also be played ant Fonte Nova Arena in Salvador.
