MERCURY SET TO OPEN TRAINING CAMP MONDAY, APRIL 24

Mercury will play two preseason games against Seattle before season opener on May 14

The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury will begin preparation for the team’s 2017 season on Monday, April 24, when Training Camp begins at Taking Stick Resort Arena. Additionally, the Mercury will also host its annual Media Day on the arena’s main court on Monday, May 8, beginning at 11 a.m. A complete training camp schedule and current Mercury roster are attached.

Training camp will kick off with player physicals at the IASIS Healthcare Multi-Specialty Clinic in downtown Phoenix on Sunday, April 23.  Practices are scheduled for every day beginning on April 24 and running through Monday, May 1. Practices will run from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and will be open to the media beginning at approximately 11:30 a.m. each day. Practice schedules are subject to change; please contact Bryce Marsee at (602) 379-7930 or by e-mail at bmarsee@phoenixmercury.com prior to arriving.

Expected in attendance for Day 1 of camp is offseason addition Camille Little and familiar faces Alex Harden and Shay Murphy.  Additionally, 2016 second-round pick Jillian Alleyne and 2017 third-round pick Alexis Prince will be in Phoenix for the start of camp.  All-Stars Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner and Danielle Robinson, as well as Cayla George and Leilani Mitchell, are expected to return following overseas playing commitments in late April and early May.

Following two preseason games (May 3 at Seattle and May 7 vs. Seattle), the team will resume training camp leading up to the season opener against Dallas on Sunday, May 14 at 3 p.m. Phoenix time.  Please see the attached 2017 Phoenix Mercury Training Camp schedule.

Media Day will feature interview and photo availability from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the main court for all players and staff of the Phoenix Mercury.  Please RSVP to Bryce Marsee by Tuesday, May 2, if you plan to attend, or have any special requests for photography or interviews on Media Day.

Get a front-row seat for history this summer! Diana Taurasi will open the 2017 regular season just 178 points shy of becoming the all-time leading scorer in WNBA history, as she attempts to lead the Mercury to a WNBA-record tying fourth championship.  Tickets for the Fry’s Food Stores Home Opener on Sunday, May 14, and the other 16 regular-season Mercury home games can be purchased by calling 602.252.WNBA or by visiting PhoenixMercury.com.
