Colombia to Next Stage of Copa America Centenario after beating Paraguay; U.S. beats Costa Rica

In a hard-fought battle at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, Tuesday night; Colombia and Paraguay left all they had on the field, at the end of the day Colombia came out ahead 2-1 therefore advancing to the knock out round of the Copa America Centenario.

Colombia became the first team to advance to the quarterfinals.

Colombia’s goalkeeper David Ospina became the hero of the game on the defensive side; he was able to stop a couple of open shots from Paraguay.

Paraguay fought hard and had plenty of chances, including a free kick from Dario Lezcano that was tipped by Ospina.

Carlos Bacca and James Rodriguez provided scored Colombia’s goals in the first half of the game; it was all Colombia needed to seal the victory.

Victor Ayala scored the lonely goal for Paraguay at the 71st minute of play.

Colombia will face Costa Rica on Saturday June 11th in Houston, Texas.

Paraguay is between a rock and a hard place as they must win against the United States in their next match, if they want to advance to the quarterfinals.

The game was played at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Clint Dempsey, Jermaine Jones, Bobby Wood and Graham Zusi scored for the United States.

Clint Dempsey scored his 50th goal in his 126th cap for the USA. He is now, only seven behind all-time U.S. leader Landon Donovan.

The USMNT win comes after losing 2-1 to Colombia in their first game of Copa America Centenario.

The victory against the Ticos evens the all-time USA-Costa Rica series at 14-14-6.

The U.S. holds an undefeated 6-0-0 record against CONCACAF teams at Soldier Field.
