Chavez Jr. Returns to the Ring after 17-Month Hiatus
By Francisco Romero. – Yes, it has been a long time, but Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. returns to the ring after 17 months of being absent.
The son of the legendary Mexican Boxer, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., will be facing Germany’s Dominik Britsch Saturday night. Chavez Jr. is going after his 50th win; his record stands now at 49-2-1, 32 KO’s.
Britsch will step into the ring with a record of 32-2-1, 11 KO’s.
“A loss would be a step backwards, it would be like falling again and having to climb back once more from the bottom. This is a great opportunity for me,” said Chavez Jr. “I am looking forward to coming out victorious and have the fans with the last say whether this is my comeback or my final fight,” he added.
The bout will be a 10-round match and will take place in Monterrey, Mexico; it will be at 170 lbs.
The last time Junior fought was back in July 18, 2015 in a bout that he won against Marcos Reyes, after a loss against Andrzej Fonfara in April 2015.
After changing promoters Chavez Jr. seems to be more focused and ready; it is no secret that one of junior’s goals is to fight his countryman Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez.
“There was a moment that I did think about retiring, sometimes one feels disappointed, but I always had high hopes of coming back and I am giving it all I have. I am very excited to come back and get in the ring again,” said Chavez Jr.
Britsch is confident that his preparation has been such that his chances of winning are very high, “I come into this fight in the best shape of my career,” said Britsch. “I hope for a good fight, it will be one of the toughest fights of my career, one that means a lot, I just hope the judges are fair.” Added Britsch.
