Cardinals Make Roster Moves Heading into Last Preseason Game against Denver
By Francisco Romero. – Earlier this week the Arizona Cardinals made some roster moves and cuts that by the end of Tuesday will take them to 75 players, as the league requires.
For the start of the regular season the team must be down to 53 players.
The following are the players who were released:
Guard JAKE BERNSTEIN
Wide receiver AMIR CARLISLE
Tight end GERALD CHRISTIAN
Tackle CLAY DEBORD
Long snapper DANIEL DILLON
Defensive tackle IOSIA IOSIA
Cornerback ASA JACKSON
Wide receiver FRANKY OKAFOR
Cornerback SHAUN PRATER
Punter GARRETT SWANSON
Safety TYREQUEK ZIMMERMAN
In addition, the team has placed cornerback MIKE JENKINS (knee) on injured reserve and waived/injured quarterback JAKE COKER (knee).
For the last game of the preseason the Cardinals will host the Denver Broncos on Thursday. The Cardinals open the regular season against the New England Patriots at University of Phoenix Stadium on September 11th.
Coming off a 34-24 loss to the Houston Texans, the Cardinals feel good about the team heading into regular season, “I feel extremely comfortable, watched them practice, defensively and offensively, I have all the confidence in the world; we are more talented, we are faster, we are longer, and it should show up on special teams,” head coach Bruce Arians told reporters after practice on Tuesday.
According to Arians the last preseason game will be important for those players who are trying to make the roster and will help from the bench once regular season starts, “You have to build your roster and the only way to build it is to see this kids play, the fourth preseason game is not for the starters it’s for those guys who your build your roster on, you build your practice squad on, the guys who need that week of work on and that game; you are going to need them in November, December.”
