Arizona Diamondbacks Welcomed Alumni to Chase Field
Staff. – For a Major League Franchise that was born in the mid-90’s the Arizona Diamondbacks have already written a long-storied chapter in the book of baseball in this country.
A chapter that contains a World Series Championship trophy, a Baseball Hall of Famer, a couple Cy Young Award winners, 5 West Division Championships among other accomplishments.
In doing so, the franchise has developed a family atmosphere for those currently playing and those who have at one point in their careers played in the Valley of the Sun.
An event that shows off that family tradition is the yearly Arizona Diamondbacks Alumni Baseball Game. On Saturday the Arizona Diamondbacks Alumni came back to once again play on the field that gave them so much satisfaction, pain, happiness and heart-ache during their careers.
Two teams made up the alumni game; one team wore Sedona Red alternate (worn from 2007-15) and the other team wore Purple “Arizona” alternate (worn from 1998-2004) to represent their respective teams during the Alumni Game.
The purple team won 5-2 in a three-inning game. The final score was the least important thing during the contest as player and fans alike had a great time.
“It’s a lot of fun, this is a great part of the history of the game, where you get to get former players to come back, be a part of a great organization here,” former outfielder Luis Gonzalez told Jake Rill from mlb.com. “Although we haven’t been in existence that long compared to a lot of other teams, they do a great job of keeping this group together, making them come out here and have fun with the fans. To have an opportunity to do this again, it means a lot.”
The Alumni who played in the game included: Luis Gonzalez, Jay Bell, Brandon Webb, Steve Finley, Reggie Sanders, Joel Adamson, Willie Bloomquist, Scott Brow, Alex Cintron, Jason Conti, Bryan Corey, Elmer Dessens, Erubiel Durazo, Mike Fetters, Andrew Good, Mike Gosling, Mark Grace, Scott Hairston, Felix Jose, Mark Little, Rodrigo Lopez, Augie Ojeda, Russ Ortiz, Bret Prinz, J.J. Putz, Stephen Randolph, Cody Ransom, Joe Saunders, Chris Snyder, Andy Stankiewicz, Kelly Stinnett, Greg Swindell and Matt Williams.
This was the fifth edition of the alumni game.
