In Arizona, a Sheriff who describes himself as Donald Trump’s “political soulmate” and who many point toward as a predecessor for the Republican Candidate’s extreme hatred is rapidly losing support as he seeks re-election for a seventh term.

After years of documenting his officers providing children with what became standard-issue stuffed animals after taking their parents away, staging dramatic civil disobedience to interrupt his raids, challenging his outdoor jail he refers to as his own concentration camp, and taking the Sheriff to court, a new campaign, Bazta Arpaio, is on the verge of removing him from office.

Most recent polls show the 23 year incumbent is trailing his challenger by 10 points. That effort will get reinforcements the weekend of October 22nd as the Bazta Arpaio campaign and Mijente invite supporters from across the country to come to Maricopa County for a weekend-long voter mobilization.

Since Arpaio won re-election by 80,000 votes in 2012 more than 200,000 county residents have turned 18, nearly half of whom are Latino.  Additionally, historic voter registration efforts added 150,000 new voters to the rolls this year alone.

Immigrant rights activists, people of faith, and union members will arrive by the busload to assist in door-knocking, phone calls, and other events culminating in an “Arpaio Retirement Block Party” they’ll hold on the street with bands performing outside the Sheriff’s office.

The Sheriff who gained national infamy for his anti-immigrant obsession and costly cruelty is now paying the price as voters see through Arpaio’s fearmongering and seek a new day.
