The Arizona Cardinals Join Hall of Famer Anthony Muñoz for the “Play 60 Character Camp”
More than 300 children gathered Tuesday morning at the University of Phoenix Stadium to get a one-on-one lesson in football by some of the top names in the NFL.
The Arizona Cardinals joined Hall of Famer Anthony Muñoz in hosting the “Play 60 Character Camp” in Phoenix. More than 300 children from youth organizations gathered in the stadium, mostly children from Hispanic descent between the ages of 9 and 13, with little or no experience in football.
“I played 13 years in the NFL and I wanted to use the game and teach more than football,” Muñoz explained, “I wanted to teach the kids character and integrity – this is a way for me to continue to give back to the youth.”
The event’s mission is to make an impact in the lives of children through football, while focusing on physical activity and the importance of building character through sports.
This camp is the fourth in a series of NFL Play 60 Character Camps taking place this summer geared specifically towards the Latino community. They’re doing more than just provide an opportunity to children to play and enjoy football.
“I’d like for the kids to take home of course a little bit of football knowledge but primarily [the message] that they can dream big and accomplish whatever they want, but to do it with character and integrity,” Muñoz said. “I’d also like for them to learn the importance of helping people and giving back.”
The “Play 60 Character Camp” is part of the Anthony Muñoz Foundation, and is made possible thanks to a collaboration with USA Football and NFL Flag. More than 50 camps have been organized since the program’s kickoff in 2012, with more than 20,000 participating children.
