Patients Get Unique Make-Over Experience at “Girls’ Day Out”

Approximately 15 young women, ages 13 to 19 who were born with a birth defect of the face, will be reminded of their beauty at a unique “girls’ day out” make-over and pampering experience in Scottsdale. The pampering session, which is designed to facilitate new friendships, will include make-up, hair styles, and manicures followed by a lunch experience at California Pizza Kitchen near the salon.

These young women were born with different birth defects of the face including the most common, cleft lip and palate, which occurs very early in pregnancy when the gaps in an unborn child’s lips and palate do not close normally.

Before turning 21, a child with a defect of the face typically undergoes multiple surgeries, speech therapy and psychological counseling along with specialized orthodontic care.

This pampering session will not only remind these young women of their beauty, but also help them and their mothers build new friendships and support systems.
