MORE: Bruno Mars Takes Home Innovator Award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards
The “Versace on the Floor” singer, who was nominated for five awards, including Album of the Year, kicked off the show with an amazing performance of his hit, “Perm,” Sunday night. Mars hit the stage alongside The Hooligans, rocking his signature moves that had viewers at home jamming from the comfort of their couches. While hyping up the crowd, the singer paused to hilariously address fans who were too busy filming his performance for social media. “You can’t film and dance at the same time,” the 31-year-old jokingly said. “You know they film it, right? You can watch it at home… Put this on your Instagram!”
Aside from giving one of the best performances of the night, the Puerto-Rican heartthrob took home the prestigious awards for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year. While the Hawaiian-born songwriter has been nominated eight times at the award show, since 2010, this is the first time he took home the honor. “To the fans, you know I love you. My first BET Award,” Mars told the audience.
