Victims of DC Navy Yard Massacre Identified
The 12 fatalities in the shooting rampage at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters in Washington have been identified, District of Columbia Metropolitan Police announced on Tuesday.
Killed in Monday’s massacre were: Michael Arnold, 59; Sylvia Frasier, 53; Kathy Gaarde, 62; John Roger Johnson, 73; Frank Kohler, 50; Kenneth Bernard Proctor, 46; Vishnu Schalchendia Pandit, 61; Arthur Daniels, 51; Mary Francis Knight, 51; Gerald L. Read, 58; Martin Bodrog, 54; and Richard Michael Ridgell, 52.
The shooter, Aaron Alexis, was fatally shot by police, and eight other people were wounded.
The Sea Systems Command HQ is located inside the Washington Navy Yard, in the eastern part of the U.S. capital.
Around 3,000 people work in the building.
Alexis, a former Navy reservist who had a valid pass to enter the facility, likely acted alone, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said Tuesday.
“We do now feel comfortable that we have the single and sole person responsible for the loss of life inside the base,” she said.
