The United States soccer team finished a long drought in World Cup play and beat Japan 5-2 in the 2015 FIFA World Cup in Canada.

The last time USA won the World Cup was in 1999.

The USA National team wasted no time in scoring; at the third minute of play Carli Lloyd kicked the ball into the net for the first goal.  Megan Rapinoe sent a beautiful corner kick to set up the score.

Lloyd scored again at the sixth minute of play.  Lloyd ended up scoring goals in the contest.

Lauren Holiday and Tobin Heath also scored for the US.

Japan never had a chance to make a come back.  By the 16th minute of play, the United States had already scored four goals.

For Japan Yuki Ogimi scored at the 27th minute of the first half and USA player Julie Johnston own goal made it 2-0 for Japan.

The United States beat Germany to get to finals while Japan beat England.

The FIFA 2019 Women’s World Cup will be played in France.
