Univision anchor Jorge Ramos isn’t sitting well with GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.
During a press conference in Dubuque, Iowa on Tuesday, Ramos was booted off the venue, after being accused of “spreading hate” with his questions directed towards Trump.
“Excuse me, sit down. You weren’t called,” Trump said, “Go back to Univision.”
Ramos on the other hand told the security officer escorting him out to “not touch him,” arguing he “had the right to ask a question.”
When he was asked about the incident, Trump said he’s never met Ramos and said “he’s obviously a very emotional person.”
Ramos was able to go back into the conference minutes later, and continued to confront the real estate mogul about his proposed immigration policy. “I have a bigger heart than you do,” Trump told Ramos, referring to his plan of curbing illegal immigration.
He then said Ramos used the term “illegal immigrants.” When the journalist denied doing so, Trump said, “well you should use it; that’s what they are — illegal immigrants.”
Hours before the event, Jorge Ramos took to his personal Facebook to share an insight on his views on Trump. He wrote, “When you call 11 million people in his country ‘illegals’ — and no human being is ‘illegal’ — is that not spreading hate?”
The press conference Tuesday was attended by almost 3,000 people.
Later in the day, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists came into the host’s defense. “Mr. Ramos was doing what journalists have done for decades — asking questions,” said NAHJ President Mekahlo Medina in a release.
“Ramos was simply trying to hold a candidate for president accountable for statements he made about a very important topic to the American people.”
After the event, Jorge Ramos took to Twitter to confess he had never in his career been kicked out of a press conference.
