We’ve all heard about the rule — the law, to be more accurate. “You shall not wear white after Labor Day.”

The rule stems from Labor Day, celebrated in the U.S. on the first Monday of September, which also marks the traditional end of summer. Hence, vacationers would put away the summer apparel and bring out the heavy coats and sweaters.

But we’re in Arizona, where the Fall still means 90-degree weather. We don’t have four seasons, so does the rule apply to us?

We’ve taken the debate to our own hands and uncovered the mystery.

The topic brings so much debate, even TripAdvisor hosted a forum especially for future visitors to share their opinions. Here’s what they had to say:

I reached out to Twitter, and the consensus was pretty much the same: Arizonans do not follow Labor Day rules.

Then I turned to Facebook, and whether some didn’t know about the rule, others still agreed that Arizona doesn’t go with it.

Others have heard the rule from past social status rules in our country. But hey, if you’re feeling like white pants and floral patterned ties in the fall, why not?!

But, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t people who still follow this custom, and if you do decide to wear white in the Fall, we have come up with some tips on how to rock the look without breaking any rules, and without going overboard. Remember, simple is always better.

1. A white blazer: If you choose to wear a white blazer, pair it with a black or gray turtleneck and skinny jeans, instead of a loose camisole. The turtleneck will make it look more season-appropriate.

2. White boots: Watch out for these – they’re a little risky. You don’t want to seem like you’re stuck with your go-go dancer costume. Make them the focus in your outfit over jeans or show them off with a skirt.

3.  White Sunglasses, Jewelry and accessories – The more subtle, the better. White sunglasses or a white belt might feel too summery, but if you pair them with heavy fabrics, it will take away from that.

4. White or cream tops: They are seasonless – always in style no matter what.

5. White pants: Only in the right fabric. You don’t want to wear a white silk pant  in the winter, but you could pair a white denim pant with a suede shoe. Again, keeping it season-appropriate.
