The Stage is Set and so are the Boxers; Canelo – Kahn Bout on Saturday
By Francisco Romero. – It comes to no surprise that Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez wants the biggest stage in a big day for Mexican – American boxing fans.
Celebrating 5 de Mayo, Canelo will face Amir Khan at the new T-Mobile Arena on Saturday in Las Vegas in a WBC middleweight title fight.
Khan will enter the ring with a record of 31-3, 19 KOs, while Canelo stands at 46-1-1, 32 KOs.
Kahn is confident of his abilities not only to give a good show, but also to actually beat the Mexican fighter.
“It will be like a game of chess. Canelo is very strong. I have a very good trainer who will tell me the right game plan. We will go in to win this fight, and I will prove people wrong. Even though it is Cinco de Mayo, the British fans will come out. In Vegas, there will be more British flags then Mexican flags.
It is easier said than done, nonetheless boxing promoter and former world champion Oscar de la Hoya is billing this fight as a clash between two great boxers.
“It is not often that two superstars of a sport face off at the peak of their careers. This is such an event, with two of the biggest international fighters fighting at the biggest arena in the world,” said De la Hoya. “These fighters have the chance to make this fight not just for them but also for the fans. This is speed vs. power. Khan has amazing footwork, but Canelo has power and strength.”
Canelo says he is prepared and ready to go and plans to give a great show and make the fight part of the Cinco de Mayo festivities, “When I come out, I bring 100 percent and this will be no exception,” said the Guadalajara native. “Amir Khan is a strong fighter, and I know he will be prepared come May 7. It will be an exciting night for the fans.”
