The Arizona Diamondbacks will participate in Hermosillo’s Half Marathon
The Arizona Diamondbacks presence in the State of Sonora keeps on growing. This time, the Diamondbacks are sponsoring Hermosillo’s Half Marathon taking place Sunday, March 13.
The Half Marathon debuted in Guaymas – San Carlos, Sonora on October of 2011 with 158 runners and 300 spectators. The 2016 edition is expecting more that 700 runners and thousands of spectators.
Members of the Half-Marathon organizing committee along with Arizona Diamondbacks personnel held a press conference in Tucson, Arizona last week to invite the Arizona running community to participate in “LOS DBACKS- HMO 21K” as it has been officially named.
The press conference was headed by Jerry Romo, Hispanic Marketing Manager for the Arizona Diamondbacks, as well as attended by Grupo SCORE and Descubre Phoenix (Discover Phoenix) who are heading the organizing efforts. The Sonoran Sports Commission was also present during the press conference.
“We are expecting around 700 runners from all over the State of Sonora, as well as Sinaloa, Baja California and Arizona,” said Christian Vernet form Grupo SCORE. “In addition to the 21 Kilometer run we will also have a 5K run,” added Vernet.
Sponsoring the half-marathon enhances the Diamondbacks efforts in Sonora and Mexico, in the past year the organization has hired former Mexican first-baseman Erubiel Durazo as a Special Assistant to Derrick Hall, president and CEO; the Diamondbacks also hired Rodrigo “El Chapo” Aguirre as a scout for Mexico.
“We are proud to be sponsoring this great event,” said Diamondbacks Hispanic Marketing Manager Jerry Romo, “Our efforts in Sonora and Mexico continue to grow as we consider them part of our fan base; I invite the runners of the State of Arizona to participate in this great event.”
The deadline for the runners to sign up will be March 10th.
