Tell us about your new fragrance, and why you decided to create one now? 

I wanted to create a fragrance a while back because at first, a lot of artists and people did it. It was the thing to do– make a fragrance. That was the next step for me. But at that point, I didn’t want to create a fragrance just because I can or because it’s the thing to do. If I was going to do this, I was going to do it right and spend a lot of time on something that not only smells nice but looks super, super aesthetically pleasing. I also wanted it to represent me as a person and an artist. I made a deal with my manager and said, “The only way I’m going to do this, is if we end up creating an awesome product that people aren’t going to buy just because it has my name on it. They’re going to buy it because they think it’s nice.” I wanted it to be something that if you’re walking through the store and if you see it on the shelf, you don’t see it because my name is on it, you know it because it looks nice and smells great. That was the thought behind it.

What’s your favorite scent on a woman?  

I wouldn’t specifically know the name of it but I like when things aren’t too aggressive, and you don’t get a headache from the excessiveness of the smell. I enjoy something like a very subtle perfume or lotion.

What’s something people would be surprised to know about you? 

I think that people have an impression that my live shows are going to be something different it is sometimes, just because they only know my singles. A lot of people get surprised when they see me on stage with the electric guitar and the band – it feels like a rock show more than a pop show.

What’s the most exciting thing that’s happened to you since you’ve become a celebrity? 

I think it has nothing to do with being a celebrity but being an artist, the most exciting thing that’s happened to me is getting to play in incredible places like MSG, and a few stadiums with Taylor Swift, and going to play nights at my home arena in Toronto in front of my family. Those have been the biggest highlights of my life.

Walk us through what a perfect day would be for you. 

Perfect day? I’m pretty simple. If I could wake up with a Starbucks drink there and go to the gym and then come back to the venue and plug my guitar in and play, I’m good.

What qualities do you look for in a potential mate? 

Someone who is light-hearted, someone who can take a joke, make the funny and the lightness come out of any situation – I think that’s what I’m looking for.

What are you working on next? A tour? An album?  

I’m touring right now, but I’m looking to have a little studio set up out here soon. I’m just working on music and letting any music I come up with dictate wherever I go next.
