The world is mourning the loss of a legend this week.

The seven-time Grammy winning singer and songwriter Prince was found dead at his Paisley Park Studios residence in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Thursday morning. He was  57.

According to a statement provided to CBS by the singer’s publicist, the singer’s cause of death is currently under investigation. Earlier this week, TMZ had reported that the singer had been battling the flu for several weeks. He was even forced to make an emergency landing on his private plane early Friday morning to be rushed to the hospital.

Prince’s last performance was just the night before at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, where audience members told People the last song he performed was his most popular hit, “Purple Rain.”

“Purple Rain” was launched in his sixth studio album of the same name, and has been dubbed one of the best albums of all time, even landing at number 2 on Rolling Stone‘s Best Albums of the Eighties.
