By Francisco Romero. –  Although not official yet, but Decio de Maria, President of the Mexican Football Federation has said, during an interview with ESPN Deportes, that Ricardo Ferretti will take the reigns of El Tri on an interim basis.

“We have talked to Ricardo Ferretti and the management of Club Tigres and we are very appreciative with Ricardo’s willingness to be able to help us coach the Mexican National Team for at least four games.  We have yet to sign an agreement, it is only an offer and we appreciate Ricardo’s commitment and his organization.” De Maria told ESPN Deportes.  “ We will be talking about the details and will continue next week discussing this issue, next week we will be in a better position to have a press conference,” concluded De Maria.

The Brazilian-born Ferretti is currently the head coach of the Tigres of the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon.

What the future, with the Mexican National Team holds for Ferretti is still unknown, for now the deal is for him to coach four games. 

“El Tuca” as he is known will replace Miguel “El Piojo” Herrera, who was fired last month after allegedly confronting a reporter and hitting a him at the Philadelphia International Airport last month.

Ferretti’s first task will be against the United States Men’s National Team on October 10th; a game that will define the team that will go to the Confederations Cup 2017 in Russia.

This will not be the first time that “El Tuca” will coach the Mexican National Team on an interim bases, he did it back in 1993 against Costa Rica and won that game.

Along with the game against the USMNT, Ferretti will also coach “El Tri” against Trinidad and Tobago and Argentina September 4th and 8th respectively.
