By Francisco Romero. – During a press conference, the Mexican Football Federation officially introduced Ricardo “El Tuca” Ferretti as the interim head coach of the Mexican National Team.
El Tuca and the Federation agreed that he would only head the team for the next four games.
“We thank Ricardo Ferretti’s commitment to coach the following four games,” said Decio de Maria, Mexico’s Football Federation President. “Because of his commitment to Club Tigres, he will not be able to coach the national team on a full time basis,” he added.
Ferretti had stated in the past that heading El Tri was of no interest to him.
“For a long time, I said that I had no intention of coaching the National Team,” said Ferretti during the press conference, “But I think, now is the right time to support our national squad.”
Ferretti will take over after Miguel “El Piojo” Herrera was fired for allegedly assaulting a reporter.
Ferretti’s interim phase will begin September 4th against Trinidad & Tobago; it will follow with a game against Argentina on September 8th.
Ferretti’s biggest game will be on October 10th in Los Angeles, as Mexico will face the United States for the right to play in the Confederations Cup in Russia. El Tuca’s commitment will take him to October 13th against Panama.
“I join the National Team with a lot of hope, with the commitment to do the best possible job with a lot of pride and satisfaction,” said Ferretti. “We need to go out and get that ticket for the Confederations Cup.
On Thursday, Ferretti will announce the players who will make up the team for the next four games, “The doors are open to all the Mexican players, I cannot have everyone in the team, therefore I will pick a group of 23 players according to our needs,” said El Tuca.
