(Phoenix, Ariz.) — Councilwoman Kate Gallego invites residents to celebrate the opening of the first dog park in South Phoenix at Esteban Park, 32nd Street and Roeser, this Saturday, Aug. 22, at 5 p.m. Community members, staff from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department and many special guests will join the councilwoman to celebrate the park improvements, which also include new basketball courts.
“The dog park and newly renovated basketball courts at Esteban Park will help to bring the community together,” Councilwoman Gallego said. “With more positive activity at our parks, we create safer and more inclusive neighborhoods. I encourage everyone to come out to the park, bring their dogs, meet their neighbors, and shoot some hoops on our beautiful new courts!”
The grand opening celebration will include dog shows and basketball games. Representatives from the Phoenix Suns and Mercury and the Arizona Humane Society also will be on hand along with Phoenix firefighters, who will be on site with a fire truck.
The new dog park is two acres and features separate areas for large and small dogs, a shade ramada, drinking fountains and lighting. The new basketball courts feature all new surfaces and new court lights.
