After 32 days off the field, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer retuned to action and guided his team to a 30-20 victory over the Washington Redskins.
Palmer had been out with a shoulder injury.
“Physically I feel good, I just need reps, I need work, I need to throw a bunch, a bunch a bunch just to get my arm strong again, it’s definitely weak,” said Palmer after the game. “The only way to get your arm strong is by throwing and that is what I need to do now,” added the quarterback.
Palmer finished the game completing 28 – 44 passes, 250 yards and two touchdowns.
“Offensively we left some plays out there, I was pleased with Carson’s performer, I think he showed some rust, but he got through it and did a heck of a job for us,” said Cardinals Head Coach Bruce Arians.
The Cardinals sealed the game in the fourth quarter as the Redskins committed four turnovers. On the other hand Arizona did not commit a turnover during the game.
“No turnovers is huge, when you can go 4 – 0 as far as your turnover margin you should not lose a game,” said Arians.
Cardinals Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald finished the game with 6 receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown. It was Fitzgerald’s first touchdown of the season. Michael Floyd also caught a pass for a touchdown.
“Overall I was very pleased, guys made plays. They made plays in critical times,” added Coach Arians.
Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins finished the game completing 24 – 38 passes for 354 yards and two touchdowns.
On the defensive side Cardinals Safety Rashad Johnson had two interceptions and returned one for a touchdown.
The Cardinals will visit the Oakland Raiders next week. Arizona improves its record to 4-1 and is in first place in the NFC West.
