Phoenix Suns Set to Pick 4th in 2016 NBA Draft
By Francisco Romero. – The wait is over and the results are in; the Phoenix Suns will enter the 2016 NBA Draft with the 4th pick. The Suns finished the 2015 regular season with a record of 23-59 in the Western Conference thus improving their chances at a high lottery pick.
As part of the Markieff Morris trade to the Washington Wizards, the Suns will also get the 13th pick in the draft, making the Suns the only team with two picks in the lottery.
Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough was very pleased with their lottery slot, “My philosophy has always been to just take the best players in the draft and then figure the rest of it out,” McDonough told Matt Petersen of suns.com.
The Suns will have their highest pick since the 1987 draft when they picked Armen Gilliam with the second overall pick.
That is not all for the Suns, as they will also have the 28th and 34th selections.
“We have as much flexibility as any team in the draft, especially on the high end,” McDonough told suns.com.
The Philadelphia 76ers will have the first overall pick; the 2016 NBA Draft will be held in in Brooklyn at Barclays Center on Thursday, June 23, 2016.
The Los Angeles Lakers, a team that finished the 2015 season with a poor record of 17-65 will have the second pick of the draft.
Last year the Suns drafted rookie sensation Devin Booker out of the University of Kentucky with the 13th pick of the first round.
The following are five of the top players who will be available for the draft: Small forward Brandon Ingram (Duke), forward Ben Simmons (LSU), forward Dragan Bender (Israel), small forward Jaylen Brown (California) and guard Buddy Hield (Oklahoma).
