Phoenix Mercury's 'Rock the Pink' Game Raised more than $10,000 for Local Breast Cancer Organizations

PHOENIX- The Phoenix Mercury “Rocked the Pink” in support of breast health awareness and raised more than $10,000 for the American Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Society during the team’s matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday, July 29.
“As one of the beneficiaries of “Rock the Pink” night, we would like to give a big thank you to the Phoenix Mercury for their dedication to helping the American Cancer Society Finish the Fight against cancer,” said Maraka Mason, Senior Director of Distinguished Events for the American Cancer Society. “The support and awareness the Mercury are able to bring to programs such as Look Good Feel Better and Reach To Recovery and the assistance they provide cancer survivors and caregivers is immeasurable. Way to Rock the Pink, Mercury!”
The money was raised through the team’s pre-game luminaria dedication drive and post-game live auction of Mercury player’s pink jerseys from the game.
In addition to the monetary donations, free screenings were held in a mobile mammography unit on the plaza of US Airways Center prior to the game, courtesy of Assured Imaging.
“The support shown by Mercury fans during this year’s “Rock the Pink” initiative was really incredible,” said Mercury President Jason Rowley. “Their compassion and generosity allowed us to make a substantial donation to two organizations that continue to positively impact the fight against cancer.”
Limited tickets are still available for the Mercury-Fever matchup onSaturday, August 2 at US Airways Center. The evening will honor Jordyn Wieber as the Mercury’s 2014 Woman of Inspiration and will include a halftime Q&A session with the Olympic gold medalist.
