PHOENIX — There is one week left until we get to August, and now more than ever, President Barack Obama is urging Republicans to come to an agreement regarding the current immigration crisis involving minors and migrant families from Central America.

According to Fox News Latino, Republican leaders are racing with time to find an agreement within their party to deal with the more than 57,000 children and other migrants who have arrived since October, mostly from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.

Obama doubts that a border legislation will arrive at its desk before the August break, so he is currently focused on other ways to reach a solution.

Republican’s current proposal includes sending National Guard troops to the border, increasing the number of U.S. immigration judges and changing a law so that migrant children arriving can be sent home faster.

The package would cost far less than the $3.7 billion Obama requested to deal with the crisis.

Obama applauded efforts in Central America to conduct public awareness campaigns on the dangers of making a long trek to the U.S. border and to strengthen police efforts against smuggling operations.
