Obama Invites Latin Artists to White House
Artists Natalie Cole, Lila Downs, Gloria Estefan, Raul Malo, Ricky Martin, Prince Royce, Arturo Sandoval, Romeo Santos, Alejandro Sanz and Marco Antonio Solis are expected to perform at the eventnext week as part of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, although the program is subject to change, the White House said.
“Musica Latina: In Performance at the White House” will take place next Monday, showcasing the influence and cultural contributions of Hispanic communities and their music, the White House said in a statement.
President Barack Obama will speak at the start of the event, which will be streamed live at www.whitehouse.gov/live starting at 7 p.m.
The celebration of Latin music will air on PBS stations across the United States on Oct. 8 and will be broadcast on Oct. 13 by the American Forces Network to U.S. military personnel and civilians at Defense Department facilities around the world.
“The First Lady will welcome 130 middle and high school students from around the Washington, D.C., area to take part in an educational workshop, ‘Celebrando el Ritmo Latino: The History of Latin Music,'” the White House said.
